You do not need a wardrobe to start. You need three pieces that do not distract you: leggings or shorts that stay put, a top that lets you move, and a bra with the right support for what you are doing. Everything else is optional.
Bottoms: the one rule
They must stay put. If you are pulling your leggings up between sets you will think about your leggings instead of the lift. Look for a high waist with a wide band, a fabric with real four way stretch, and a squat test you can do in the changing room: squat, look in the mirror, and if you can see through the fabric they are not the ones.
Shorts are the same rule. A wide band, a length that does not ride up, and a fabric that does not cling when it gets warm.

Tops: move first, look second
A tank or a short sleeve tee in a light knit is right for almost everything. Save the long sleeve for cold mornings and the walk home. If you mainly lift, a cropped length keeps the fabric off the bar. If you mainly run, a longer body stops it riding up.
Bras: match support to the session
Light support for walking, yoga and mobility work. Medium for lifting and cycling. High for running and anything with jumping. Most beginners buy one medium support bra and it covers the first month.
Colours
Black hides sweat and goes with everything, which is why every brand leads with it. Buy the first set in black, then add a colour once you know what you actually wear.
